Art in the Working Day

A nine-storey office renovation where a considered art collection, not just a new atrium, gives each floor its own identity.

In the office towers of major cities, people spend much of their day thinking, meeting and making decisions. Yet many workspaces are designed around efficiency alone. Repeated desks, neutral finishes and uniform lighting can make one floor feel much like the next.

Art gives an office a more particular identity. A painting near the entrance offers visitors their first impression of the company. A sculpture in a shared area can become a familiar point of reference for colleagues. In a meeting room, a carefully chosen work may invite a moment of curiosity before the conversation begins.

The choice of art matters as much as its placement. A piece selected only to match the furniture is unlikely to hold anyone’s attention for long. Work that reflects a company’s interests, its city or the people who use the space can start conversations and make the environment feel more personal. Over time, these works become part of the everyday experience of being there. They help turn a floor in a plaza into a workplace people recognise as their own.
